The Omen club ran from 1988 – 1998 and was located in a car park at the now torn down Junghofstrasse in Frankfurt. It’s widely recognised as being the birthplace of techno in Germany.
Under the management of trio Sven Vath, Michael Munzing Martinsson and Matthias, the Omen developed over 10 years into one of the key clubs in the techno scene with DJ greats like Sven, Carl Cox, Frank Lorber, Richie Hawtin, Toni Rios, Gayle San, DJ Dag, Chris Liebing, Marco Zaffarano, Ulli Brenner, Jeff Mills and many others playing often until late the following afternoon.
After the “Farewell Weekend” on 19 October 1998, the Omen closed. The last track played was ” Astral Pilot – The Day After “.
There were a total of three closing parties, on Monday, Wednesday, and then the very last from Friday until Monday morning. The rush of visitors on Sunday was so great that the organizers put speakers on the street, where hundreds of people danced. The police did not intervene and shut Junghofstraße for through traffic. (imagine that happening in the UK?!)
Sven Vath and Matthias Martinsson went on to found the Cocoon Club in 1998.
